National Housing Market Weakens, Melbourne Values Decline

The national Home Value Index saw its fifth consecutive monthly decline in August, down 0.9%, bringing national dwelling values 3.6% below their March peak. Melbourne's dwelling values fell by 1.1% for the month.

This broader downturn suggests that buyers in Melbourne's western growth corridor may find increased negotiating power and more choice as properties spend longer on the market. Sellers might need to adjust price expectations to attract interest.
